The Full Picture

The Discover it Secured Card is hands down one of the best entry-level credit tools out there if you’re looking to build or rebuild your credit. You make a refundable deposit (usually starting at $200), which becomes your credit limit.. ..and from there, you’re off to the races. You use it like any other credit card, pay it off in full each month, and over time, you start building that credit score up.

Unlike most secured cards, this one actually gives rewards: 2% cashback at gas stations and restaurants (on up to $1,000 per quarter), and 1% back on everything else. Discover will even match all the cash back you earn in your first year, which is pretty generous for a secured card. After about 7 months, they’ll start automatically reviewing your account to see if you’re eligible for an upgrade to an unsecured card — and if so, they’ll return your deposit.

If you’re just getting started or bouncing back from credit issues, this is a card that treats you with a bit of dignity while doing its job well.
