Snapshot Summary
If you fly United frequently and don’t have lounge access, then this card is likely a good fit for you. Despite its large annual fee, it’s better than paying outright for a United Club℠ membership, which goes for $750 each. Outside of lounges, the card provides useful benefits for United flyers who don’t have status, such as Premier Access®, free first & second checked bags, and special pricing on award travel redemption.
The Full Picture

At some popular United hubs, such as Newark (EWR), getting lounge access via credit cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® or Capital One Venture X is simply not viable—there are no special credit card lounges nor Priority Pass lounges really available.

Given I have United 1K status, I am typically flying to/from EWR and it kind of sucks to not have any lounge access. However, with the The New United Club℠ Card, I can get access to a complimentary United Club℠ membership. This awesome membership, which is worth at least $750 a year (since that’s the cost to buy it outright), gives me United Club lounge access with a valid same-day boarding pass on a United Airlines/Star Alliance flight.

The card also gives you a bunch of useful United benefits, especially if you don’t have any type of United status. For example, you can get a free first and second checked bags alongside Premier Access®. Something unique to United cardholders is the ability to access special cardmember-only award space, granting you additional Saver fare opportunities.

While there’s no special elevated cardmember offer, getting 80,000 bonus miles after spending $5,000 within the first 3 months of opening the card is a nice cherry on top, especially if you were already considering purchasing the membership outright.
